Anyone fancy a walk?

As you all probably know I am a bit of an avid walker, so this new year I have decided to set myself another challenge, walking Trans Europe 1600 miles through 9 different countries.

After 2 days I am 15.62 miles in and just passing the port of Dunkerque…only 1584.38 miles to go! Realistically I plan to complete the walk before New Year’s Eve 2022, a manageable target as I walked 1773 miles in the last 11 months…

I am hoping to widen my areas to walk in as well as some of my old favourites. I am going to rediscover the Peak District by completing as many Ethels as possible: 95 hills, tors, edges and trigs over 400m named after Ethel Haythornthwaite an environmental campaigner in the Peak District.  She was a fascinating character,  you can read more about her here –

I have been lucky enough to receive a very smart pair of boots at Christmas to help me with this. They have already been well and truly christened on an extremely muddy walk on New Year’s Eve. I now just need to replace my walking shoes, for the better weather, as my current pair are definitely on their last legs, maybe for my birthday later this month…

I generally walk alone, with audio books to keep me company, (50 books last year) with friends  or with our empowering women’s walk group, of which I am one of the leaders. I get to choose where to go. I love planning walks and deciding suitable areas to explore with the other ladies.

So, I am hoping to keep a bit of a log through my blog, as a record of my miles and achievements.  Please bear with me while I put my ramblings down on here.

Ankle braces ready,
trusty walking poles ready,
ear buds with audio books fully charged.
This girl is ready to go!
