This morning I was looking through my memories on Facebook when it occurred to me that this is the time of year that I like to travel, however due to the global pandemic this has not been possible this year. I should have been heading off to India to work with elephants and sloth bears in 2 weeks time, but obviously that is now, sadly on hold.
So – for now I’m going to live on my memories.
Twelve months ago today my trusty sidekick BB Bear and I were heading off on our intrepid adventure walking the Mardi Himal trek in the Annapurna massif range of the Himalayas.

Three years ago today I was on a small boat heading to a floating market in Thailand, my first lone adventure meeting up with people I didn’t know. That holiday was the one that forged deep friendships with worldwide mates, with whom we have plans to continue to travel when we can. At the moment we are making do with the occasional group video calls instead.

Six years ago, so Facebook reminded me, I was at Manchester airport in Starbucks waiting for my flight to be called to head to Crete for the last week of the season to visit my friends Sue and George.
All these memories today just make me think how this pandemic has closed everybody’s lives into surviving in the here and now, existing our own small area of the world.
A few of my friends have managed to travel to Greece, Spain and Turkey and yes we have 2 weeks potentially booked in the New Year for the Canary islands, will it go ahead? Who knows ?
I was lucky enough to be in New Zealand for couple of weeks back in March, as the pandemic broke out, which was cut short, so I missed the final 6 weeks of my solo travelling there. Hopefully at some stage in the future, I will be able to return to finish that adventure.
However, for now at this moment in time we just live each day as it comes, enjoying our local area.
I have neglected my blog due to many many reasons, no excuses… but now I am determined to become more regular in my writing. It may well be ramblings just like this one is, but please bear with me and watch this space…
