Having been sitting by the pool in Kefalos on Kos for almost a week, next to a couple of women of a certain age, who spent their day decked out with their suncream, books and sun hats, I overheard their conversation as they swam “swan style” up and down the pool…
“Shall we have a peach this afternoon instead of a beer?”
Silence from the other lady, “Ok, I take that as a no then……”
These two lovely ladies were in the sea later that day, they were typical γιαγιά ( Greek grandmothers ) They were there when we went for lunch and they were still there when we returned. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall – or maybe a fish in the water. Wonder what they were discussing?
It is a very common occurrence watching the grandmothers in the sea, quite often in their black petticoats.
