Day 9: breakfast fiasco, border control experience like no other, stop for”hot” coach, SWIM, tuk tuk to town, food, shopping , ending up a disaster..

Not wanting a repeat of the cold fried eggs I decided to order it and hopefully watch it cook…. .oh no not that easy. Queued for 20 mins to order, got my toast immediately and was told my eggs were coming….. having eaten my toast I went and asked where my eggs were – inside someone elses tummy. Eventually when asked again, they were just sitting behind the counter, slowly congealing. Ate it in about 3 seconds as everyone was getting in the bus to leave. We headed to the border, another long drawn out procedure. Left Thailand with our exit visa, no problems. Getting into Cambodia took much longer. Filling in visa applications, then queuing up again to submit it. But we made it through!!

We could immediately see a difference in the 2 countries, poverty levels increased. We headed off, after a while we had to stop because we had a “hot bus ” – conveniently outside a tourist shop run by one of his family members. Bought some extremely yummy banana chips, a hat and a couple of other things.

Once in Siem Reap, we changed to tuk tuks to take us down the lane to the Karma hotel.

Heaven, a pool and lemongrass mojito!!

Took a tuk-tuk into town, thought the roads were bad, however, they were nothing compared to the following day! Bamboo gave us a welcome meal in a fab restaurant, a few different meals to try. We had a couple of hours before heading back so went for a wander around the markets and shops. Horrendous hassle from the market traders, ” you buy from me lovely lady” … ” I give you good price”… decided i would hate all the haggling that we would encounter.

About 6 of us were in a shop looking at t-shirts. To cut a long story short one of our crew had her purse whipped from her bag by a woman who looked like one of the shop assistants, who had a beefy Western man with her.

We hot-footed to the police box to report it. They took statements, photos but said no crime number as we had to go to the tourist police tomorrow to complete it and they would send the details on.

Thoroughly dampened the night. Off to bed for a very early start.
